Spider-Man is a comic-book character that was the original all- man superhero. In Spider-Man's debut story, a radioactive agent is used to infect a young American boy named Peter Parker. He gains strength, speed and agility as a result of the bite. He can also cling to walls. Spider-Man was created as a filler story in an abandoned anthology series. A teenage lead character was not common at the time.
Readers of top Spiderman comics responded strongly to Peter Parker. This led to an ongoing title, as well as a media empire that included video games, one animated and one live action television series, a live film franchise and a Broadway musical. Spider-Man was an egregious departure from comic-book superhero conventions.

He was a teenager character that was not reduced to sidekick status alongside a more experienced hero. Parker had enhanced speed, strength, and a precognitive spider sense that alerted him when dangers were approaching. Parker used his scientific skills to create a unique adhesive and build a pair of wrist-mounted web-shooters which allowed him to form the webbing into useful shapes.
The web-adorned red-and-blue costume, which Spider-Man quickly became Spider-Man’s most prominent trademark, was also designed by Parker. Martin Goodman, Marvel's publisher, was initially resistant to Spider-Man as a teenage hero. He also didn't want to be influenced by Spider-Man’s neuroses and romantic shortcomings, or his chronic worries about money.
Goodman believed that the spider motif would repel the audience. Lee's instincts won out. Spider-Man's debut was in Amazing Fantasy and it was a huge success.
