Former Ghana Football Association President Kwesi Nyantakyi says he was shocked by the lifetime ban decision handed him by the world football governing body, FIFA.

Describing the decision as “unfair harsh and unwarranted,” the embattled football administrator has given the clearest indication of his intention to appeal the decision.

In a statement issued, Wednesday, Mr. Nyantakyi said his lawyers are seriously reviewing the facts for an appeal at the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS).

Apart from the life ban, Mr. Nyantakyi was also slapped with a 500,000 swiss francs fine, a decision many believe was too severe.

He was deemed to have breached several of FIFA’s rules on conflict of interest bribery and corruption and the FIFA Ethics Adjudicatory Committee which perused details of a petition brought before it by Ghana’s ace investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas decided to fine and ban him for life.

The petition by Anas follows a sting investigation he conducted on football in Ghana which uncovered widespread bribery and corruption in football administration in Ghana and Africa as well.

The investigation, titled #Number 12 captured several referees and football administrators on video taking bribe either to change the fortune of a game or to accept one player or another.

The investigation which was shown in Facebook videos downloads, as well as in some Instagram videos, shocked the nation. Shortly after the documentary was made public, and a petition sent to them, FIFA imposed a 90-day suspension on Nyantakyi pending further investigation in the allegation.

It appears the investigation is over and the world football governing body decided to impose a life ban on Ghana’s most powerful and promising football administrator. In a statement, Mr. Nyantakyi expressed his desire to appeal the decision.

The final decision by FIFA was just as shocking as the details of the investigation by ace investigator Anas Aremeyaw Anas.

Mr. Nyantakyi is hoping CAS will overturn the earlier ruling by FIFA.
